utter satisfaction at the deal
have every meal here
I sit w/someone's grandma and eat like a queen
for pocket change exchange pleasantries
send me home w/a sunshine smile
I could live here among the ruby dragon fruit
handmade dumplings, sesame candies
I could stand around and sift through treasures
watch old friends debate colloquially
see other mothers w/their children
enjoying momentary childlessness
I could be in any SE Asian country
visiting virgin 1st time exploration
But I'm not
This is my neighborhood market on a Tuesday
I should be at work
I holiday here like a midweek tourist

- I just returned back to the States after 11 years in Taiwan with my daughter. Taiwan is an excellent base for us explore Asia, while living in relative (gun free) safety, while benefiting from a cheap and efficient national health care system. The people are amazing too. I have Taiwanese friendships that are 20 years old and I'm always making new ones! My coworker here in CO is from Taiwan.
