About Me

My photo
I just returned back to the States after 11 years in Taiwan with my daughter. Taiwan is an excellent base for us explore Asia, while living in relative (gun free) safety, while benefiting from a cheap and efficient national health care system. The people are amazing too. I have Taiwanese friendships that are 20 years old and I'm always making new ones! My coworker here in CO is from Taiwan.

Slave Sibling

If Joseph could be imprisoned w/ a false kiss
Forgotten in a dungeon of woman’s lust
I can hold out a little longer
Until the next moon swell

If he such a prince, a child of a virile father
Firstborn of his mother
Beautifully well made potential in every muscle
Could wait as long as he
Cultivate ancient immortality
Then I can rule pyramids, the Nile w/in me
Delta flood of possibility

I learn to mummify well known methods of satisfaction
Still w/honey and myrrh body memory reaction
Reading pharaoh’s dreams as distraction

I will be released eventually
I am a burnt desert crusty earthed caking over
Underground forgotten reservoirs

When you brothers of another mother return
On your knees to discover
You beg for mercy and not recognize me
When you find mercy overflowing
You’ll find me regal, knowing
Being a slave was worth it

No-Name’s Island

Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived all alone on an island. The island was circled with the whitest sands of softest beach and in the middle of the island was a small hill of volcanic rock surrounded by trees. She lived on the bottom of the rocks, under the trees, while a family of wild wolves lived on the top in a large cave. She didn’t know how long she had lived there, because she didn’t have any parents or brothers or sisters, and her only memory was life in the present moment. She didn’t ever remember being younger, or being a baby, she seemed to be always the same age. There was no past, or future for her, only today. The little girl didn’t even have a name, she just was. She was No-Name.

The little island No-name lived on, was a very nice place to live. There was never any bad weather, no storms or cold, no freezing winters or snow. Everyday was sunshine and warmth, fresh breezes from the sea, rivers full of fish and trees full of birds and fruit. But just because there weren’t any other people on the island didn’t mean she was lonely or bored or lazy and had nothing to do. In fact, No-name was always very busy with her daily task of feeding and keeping watch.

The entire island was interlaced with a network of small, fresh water rivers, brooks and gullies, filled to the brim with large and healthy salmon. The river waters became so infested with salmon, the salmon became stuck in traffic jams and could not swim. The little girl would intervene and move the fish around, so that they could breathe and swim free. But her help only made the problem worse, there was an overabundance of fish. The salmon population became so dependent on No-Name, that rivers no longer needed to be so wide, and they shrunk and became even skinnier streams, so the salmon could only fit one at a time. One thing led to another and No-name was feeding the overabundance of salmon to the wolves.

The wolves also became so dependent on No-Name that they stood in line, tails wagging, snarling in hungry anticipation until she gave them each a fresh salmon. The wolves were so well trained, she had them stand in line beside the river. The salmon too swam in a line, so all she had to do was pull one out and give it to a nearby wolf.
.
This system seemed to work well for everyone. The little girl lived in peace and tranquility with the wolves, which was her only danger. No-Name had no worries or wants, and everyday was like the previous day so that she never grew up. Until one strange day, everything changed.

It was that time of the day to feed the wolves the fresh salmon waiting to be picked from the tiny stream. The wolves were in their lines beside the stream, and they were snarling and hungry. This day they seemed hungrier than usual, they seemed a little angry and impatient. No-Name couldn’t feed them fast enough it seemed to her. For the first time, she became a little worried about the wolves behavior, and for the first time No-Name was a little concerned about her own safety.

No-Name stood straddling a tiny stream between her feet and bent down and picked up a fat, juicy salmon with both hands. The wolves were impatient and began nipping her at her ankles. They had never done that before she thought!! All she could think to do, while they were taking little nibbles of her ankles was to keep catching the fish and keep feeding the wolves. But no matter how many wolves No-Name fed, there was still more hungry wolves nipping and snarling at her ankles. As she picked up another salmon, the large fish turned its head to her and said, “Look!” So No-Name turned her head towards the sea, and she surprised, saw a little boat with three people. One of them was small like her, and had jumped from the boat and was swimming to shore towards her.

No-Name threw the salmon back into the river and ran with all her might towards the shore. She could feel the wolves running after her, but she ran straight into the sea, not sparing one second to look back. She hit the water and kept swimming towards the boat. She yelled at the strange person who was now near the shore, “Go back! Go back! The wolves are hungry!!!!” The little girl No-Name, didn’t dare look back, and swam towards the little row boat until she wanted to collapse, and was helped into the boat with friendly hands.

So much was the shock of her radical new change, from the wolves biting her, from living everyday on an island, from never seeing any other humans until now, that she slept for days in a cabin under the boat. When she woke, she was in a strange new land of people and buildings, and she was finally given a name, but that’s another adventure.
