About Me

My photo
I just returned back to the States after 11 years in Taiwan with my daughter. Taiwan is an excellent base for us explore Asia, while living in relative (gun free) safety, while benefiting from a cheap and efficient national health care system. The people are amazing too. I have Taiwanese friendships that are 20 years old and I'm always making new ones! My coworker here in CO is from Taiwan.

Bait Sein Dance

Virtual waves break in the background muffling out humanity's insomnia

Cry yourself to sleep,  brackish tears drifting into a riptide

All I have are scribbles with broken lines, empty ink fountains of jerk bait lost at sea

Bait-sein dance, you and I holding taut in our rental pond

This entangled net between us

A cement boat block on a dock with no accessible deck

No view of the horizon, nor hope of  any sky

Might as well be in a nuclear submarine in a contentious strait

With 10,000 missiles pointed at me

Tied inside my Neoprene straight jacket, restrained

As I'm hunted daily by a pirate, the apartment terrorist

The adolescent monster I myself created

Her flag is black and her heart is broken

I float out token offerings, chumming candle apologies on the water, a maternal puja

But the tide returns their ripped, rejected, saturated shreds as small as phytoplankton

I gather their bits spying my shattered reflection on the polluted sea surface

Shame covers the oceanic expanse like an oil spill down a once pristine coast

Forgiveness is like a fisherman throwing his hooks into the abyss

Toiling for any return

An imperfect catch, explosive mismatch

Face to face with the Leviathan

Find me in the inlet and come aboard

Mend the holes in the broken net, ensure no future bycatch

Embrace The Recovery

 Embrace the recovery

Your weakness, fragility

Like an old man after surviving pneumonia

Drowning in phlegmatic denial, an unspoken mucous grief

Coughing up bits of the neighborhood grave

In a collective catatonic feeling of dread

Students memorialize their beloved mentor

Orphaned children lay awake in their beds

Summer sums long surged past the Spanish Flu

Breaking records and folk still don't know what to do

A con man in a caravan peddling out quack therapies

Nurses and doctors exhausted from fools self practicing animal medicine

Burden cracked systems, overflowing tent morgues farming passed souls

I pray you don't join them

We've survived up 'til now

Empowered with first world second chances

Every day contains a Spring and Fall
