About Me

My photo
I just returned back to the States after 11 years in Taiwan with my daughter. Taiwan is an excellent base for us explore Asia, while living in relative (gun free) safety, while benefiting from a cheap and efficient national health care system. The people are amazing too. I have Taiwanese friendships that are 20 years old and I'm always making new ones! My coworker here in CO is from Taiwan.

Misplaced Ambition

Fly away a traveler on holiday is a beautiful affair
We leave behind the pain
The blushing shame of a crushed imagined (and poorly researched) itinerary
Discover new islands of liberty soothes me
fills the space of where your company could be

Wash dirty laundry by hand in the communal sink
scrub away thoughts that link to the stink of rejection
Say prayers, utter chants, mumble petitions to superior powers
Purify myself of this casual connection

I  stoop low on bended knee on the rainforest's floor
too small for you to notice
Breathe in the fragrant peat moss undergrowth, between slick roots,
among solitary giant ants I identify
Camera harvest jungle mushrooms of every shade and property
probably poisonous and stew in their photogenic congregation, they sing to me
The primeval forest labyrinth discloses my own hearts
furtive desire in my untrained observation
Befriend the friendly viper who whispers in my ear
keep running until you reach the ocean

I drowned my progeny in the sea and buried us alive in sand
until we metamorphose lay mermaid like on barnacle peppered rocks
Allow the tide to swallow us into the sunset,  an embrace of salt with sky
For this moment life is art, we are apart of a masterpiece

The other holiday makers busy themselves with activity, with boat rides
we prefer nothing to do but frolic and be still
The fish came in bloated and confused in the shallowness
I caught one between my hands becoming more outwardly wild
            inner more mild

I  flew back more myself simplified, amplify the essence
power implied, lay aside all anxiety, former chimera of control

Then I saw you, just a reflection,  a mirage of something deep within
your smile brought tears to my eyes
I saw through your shadow veneer mine own projection of completion
You the sweetest  boy child, tender hearted
All the love of your matriarch for you surged and overwhelmed me
                  for a moment, I cried

Our ambition is misplaced and our timing poorly commanded
You seek a face, a quixotic countenance, a fantastical past
I seek a breath-taking future, a place of mythical territory
Ever the quest, here and now betwixt that space is a supernatural verb
Read the volumes between the lines
